Getting Your Real Estate License in Illinois

The real estate market in Illinois is booming, especially in Chicago. So, if you have decided to be a real estate agent in Illinois, the first step would be getting your real estate license in Illinois. In order to get the license, you must pass the Illinois Real Estate Salesperson Examination, and to be eligible for the examination, candidates must meet the following requirements.

1. Eligibility for Getting Your Real Estate License in Illinois

Age: Must be at least 21 years old.

Academic Requirements: Must be a high school graduate or have obtained the equivalent of a high school degree.

Pre-licensing educational requirements: Having successfully completed the 45 hours Real Estate Transactions course at an approved real estate school for getting a real estate salesperson license in Illinois. Having successfully completed the 120 hours Real Estate Transactions course for getting a real estate broker license in Illinois. In addition, the broker applicant must successfully complete 75 classroom hours of broker courses at an approved school.

2. Cost of Getting Your Real Estate License in Illinois

The Examination Fee is $45 for either a salesperson applicant or a broker applicant. The fee for getting a real estate salesperson license or broker license is $125.00.

3. Taking the Real Estate Exam in Illinois

After passing the pre-licensing educational requirements mentioned above, the applicants will be allowed to take the state exam.

Applicants must register for the Illinois Real Estate Salesperson exam with Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP). Call them at 800-345-6559 or visit their website, www.goAMP.com.

To pass the exam, applicants must obtain at least 75% on each category of the two-part multiple-choice exam.

4. Obtaining the Real Estate License in Illinois

Once the applicants pass the Illinois Real Estate Examination, they can apply for a real estate salesperson or broker license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
